The VLX sits on the shoulders and the waist in a belt and is therefore dependent on the length of your torso, a comfortable fit is required to safely operate the scanner. Adjustments are made during this step.
Adjust the size of the VLX while it is inside the box as per instructions below. Check the battery and have your scanning pathways planned before use.
Bring the VLX box to your scanning site in a location that does not obstruct the pathways.
The VLX box is heavy, ensure that you have another person with you to carry it.
Using Torque Screwdrivers Keep screwing until you hear an audibly loud click and then stop. Torque screwdrivers/wrenches ensure a specific level of tightness has been reached.
Keep your fingers and clothes clear of the folding mechanism.
Fold out the scanner and secure the screws* with the torque screwdriver. Keep screwing until you hear an audibly loud click and then stop.
Ensure the scanner is fully unfolded by trying to fold it back up again.
*Note that the screws are embedded in the frame and will not come out all the way.
Open the storage case, the first part of the set up is done directly inside the case. All tools are provided in the case as well, please ensure you store them correctly once done.
Loosen the two screws.
Slide the bracket to your desired sizing.
Re-attach the bracket securely with the same screws until you hear a click.
Still inside the box, unfold the VLX and tighten the 2 locking screws until you hear a click.
Press the button on the side of the battery to check battery percentage. Allow at least 80% charge before you start scanning.
Insert the SSD into the slot on the side of the NavVis VLX.
Insert the batteries into both mounts and ensure they are fully locked into position (you will hear a click).

Locate and wear the waist belt. (Above hips)
The bracket should face forward.
Securely tighten it around your waist.
Back pads (for a tighter fit) or a belt extension is provided in the box.
Now you can take the scanner out, highlighted below are the areas where you can hold and support the scanner.
When taking the VLX out of the box, ensure one person is holding the box down while the other lifts the scanner. The box tends to lift due to friction.
Place the VLX on a flat surface, resting on the belt book and shoulder pads.
Clean the cameras and laser scanners with a microfiber if necessary
Please note that the VLX is 8.5kg without batteries mounted. Ask for extra help if necessary.
Tilting the scanner slightly forward and lower the bracket into the waist belt.
Mount the shoulder pads over your shoulders.
You should feel most of the weight on your hips, and a smaller weight on your shoulders. If there is too much weight on your shoulders - increase the size. If there is too might weight on your waist, decrease the size.
If necessary, make adjustments to the sizing now. Return the unfolded scanner to its storage box and readjust the waist belt.
Only continue with this once the scanner has been adjusted to the right size for you.
The scanner must be calibrated on a flat surface before use. If no blank surface is available, use the top of the box.
Press the power button until you hear a beep. Once you turn on the scanner, it will automatically calibrate.
Do not move the device during this step, as the inertial sensors inside the device are sensitive to movement during calibration. If it is moved during startup, the user interface will require manual calibration.
If a manual scan is requires;
Place the device on a stable level surface.
Tap Calibrate.
Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%. This should take about 20 seconds. To cancel the calibration, tap Cancel.
The UI displays a message indicating that the calibration is successful.
If calibration fails, restart the device.
