How to guide on downloading and installing ABB Robot Studio v6.08
ABB Robot Studio is the robot programming software for the ABB Robots we have in the MSD Robotics Lab. The Lab uses Robot Studio 2025. This guide will show you how to correctly download, install and license Robot Studio.
Robot Studio is only available on Windows.
The pictures in this tutorial reference an older version (6.08), however the instructions are still the same.
Go to 'Try RobotStudio Suite for Free' and select the 'Test it for 30 Days' button. Fill in your details to download. See below for instructions on installing and licensing.
Install RobotStudio by running the setup.exe file.
Install RobotStudio using the complete settings.
Setting up a License
You may need to renew the license every 30 days, when the trial expires. If this occurs, repeat the sign-up process for the 30 day trial and re-download RobotStudio.
When opening RobotStudio for the first time, you will be prompted to enter a license code. Select Standalone License and request a Trial License.
Once you have stepped through the setup, RobotStudio trial will be activated.
Install Robot Ware 6.08
Robot Ware is required for some operations in Robot Studio. Robot Ware is the same software that runs on the robot. The robots use version 6.08.
RobotWare and RobotStudio are two different pieces of software. RobotStudio is the application you installed already and is used to program the robot. We use RobotStudio version 2025.
RobotWare is the software that runs on the robot, it also runs on your computer for simulation purposes. RobotWare 6.08 is installed on the robots at the MSD Robotics Lab.
