3DPrinterOS Quick Start
3DprinterOS is a platform for students to upload their print ready files to the cloud for processing by Fab Lab technicians.
Our FDM process has changed for students; your papercut account will now be charged for all FDM 3D printing with Fab Lab. You are now required to queue your prints directly to a printer, sharing to Fab Lab is no longer required. Ensure your Papercut account is sufficiently charged before queue your work.
Before beginning with 3DprinterOS, please ensure you understand the Fab Lab submission process and the file naming conventions! If you have not already created a job submission in the FDM queue, you will need to do that before proceeding.
Login to 3DprinterOS using your university student or staff username and password.
Upload your prepared 3D printing files as a new project.
Queue your prints to an available printer.
Manage and preview your files.
Which files will you be uploading?
Exported .3mf.gcode files from Bambu Studio - as many as required for you submission.
All geometry as a single .stl file, exported from Bambu Studio.
See Bambu Studio Quick Start for instructions on preparing these files.
Follow the steps in the tabs below to complete your upload.
In a new browser, open https://www.3dprinteros.com/
In the login panel, select SSO
For the institution input 'University of Melbourne'. Two prompts will appear.
Select 'University of Melbourne - Fab Lab' option.
Login using the Unimelb SSO with your student or staff details.
The 3DPrinterOS dashboard has a number of features, however the platform is currently only used for uploading and reviewing Fab Lab 3D Print files.
In the navigation ribbon, select Files

On the far right side of the dashboard, select the green Add Files button

Drag and Drop or 'Select from Computer' to to upload your file.
Your files will be uploaded and create a new 'Project' folder named using ONLY your "Project Number"
Use the 'Object +' button to add more .3mf.gcode files to the project folder.

Once your files are uploaded as a Project Folder, they are accessible to the Fab Lab technicians for processing. Any adjustments to these files may affect processing times.
REMEMBER you must follow the Fab Lab file naming conventions when uploading.
When you first login to 3DPrinterOS there will be some default print ready files. These can be deleted if you wish.
You must manually queue your work to a printer. If you do not queue each print bed, the Fab Lab will not be able to process the job.
Our process has changed. You are now able to queue your print files directly to the next available printer.
Select the 'PRINT' button for the sliced file your wish to queue.
Select the next available printer. You will only see printers that have materials matching your sliced file.
Select your preferred material from the drop down list and select 'Queue'.
Your work will be queued to the printer and printed in the order that it appears on the printer queue (not the order that it appears in the Fab Lab job manager).
Managing a project folder
On the right-hand side of the project folder ribbon you will find four buttons which you can use to manage your job.
'Edit' allows you to rename your project folder. It is critical that you do not change this name as it is the means by which Fab Lab technicians identify your job. If you change the project name your job may be delayed in processing.

'Share' allows you to share your project with other 3DPrinterOS users via email.

The object '+' symbol allows users to add files to the project folder. This may be necessary if there is an issue with your file and you have been asked by Technicians to re-upload your sliced files or upload other file types (.stl,.obj,.3mf).

This step is only required when you need support from technicians. Technicians will request this step on an as needs basis.
If your print is experiencing errors, Fab Lab may request that you use the share function to allow technicians to see your work and process your prints manually.
On the right side of the folder ribbon, select 'Share'

In the Share dialogue box, select 'Share to Fab Lab'. Fab Lab technicians will be notified of your upload and be able to process your file.
