The Build Yard is located between the Wetworks Outdoor Area and the Loading Zone is ideal for large outdoor projects.

Overview

The Build Yard is located beside the Wetworks Outdoor Area and the Loading Zone and is approximately 10m x 7m. This area can be used for large outdoor projects built by class groups. As there is no cover or protection from the elements on the Build Yard you will need to ensure that what you are building is able to withstand the weather.

Access

Access hours will depend on the Opening Hours of the space you are working from. Wetworks Opening Hours: 10:00am - 4:30pm Machine Workshop Opening Hours: 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Etiquette and Rules

As with any of the unstaffed Maker Spaces, the Build Yard relies on those using it to maintain the cleanliness of the area. Please take pride in this work area, bearing in mind that it is an open exterior space. The Build Yard can be used for a range of fabrication methods - please check with the Guru on duty or the Machine Workshop staff if you are unsure whether your proposed activity is appropriate.

Rules for use

The following rules for the Build Yard must be adhered to at all times:

Inductions

  • Level 3 Inductions are required for access.

PPE

  • Ensure that all users of the space are carrying the correct level of PPE.

Tools and Responsibility

  • The only tools allowed from the Machine Workshop are cordless drills and drivers.

  • Tools, workpieces and personal items must not be left unattended - the area is open to the outside so any items left are your responsibility.

Working Culture and Processes

  • Be respectful of others in the vicinity - notify anyone nearby if you will be carrying out fabrication processes that might disturb others.

Concrete work

  • Speak to the Machine Workshop staff if you need to do concrete grinding and concrete drilling.

Packing-up and Cleaning-up

  • Clean up after yourself and leave the space clear from all belongings unless alternative arrangements have been made with Maker Spaces staff.

  • Remove all materials and personal items from the Build Yard when finished.

  • Return any Wetworks equipment and PPE within hours of operation: 10:00am - 4:30pm.

  • Return any Machine Workshop equipment within hours of operation: 1:00pm - 5:00pm.

The Build Yard can be accessed via the or the .

To gain access to the Build Yard, you must complete the appropriate (Level 00, 01, 02 and 03).

(Personal Protective Equipment) must be worn at all times. PPE can be found in the glass cupboards in the Model Making Room, ask the Guru if you are unsure.

The tools allowed in this area are from the Wetworks space.
