# Cables Guide

An overview of cable types and connections, available for loan from Loans Desk.

Some common cable connections used for computers and media equipment:

USB-C some key points:

* Flippable port - can plug in either top or bottom side facing up.
* USB-C is now commonly found in many tech devices, external hard drives and smartphones.
* This cable type may be used for charging, transferring data or both.

Thunderbolt 3/4:

* Physically identical to USB-C, but faster.
* A super-set of USB-C.

HDMI cable:

* Common display port connector used for monitor display etc.
* 19-pin cable.
* Supported on a wide range of media devices. 

Display Port:

* Common display port connector used for monitor display etc.
* 20-pin cable. 
* Has a physical latch that prevents it from being disconnected automatically. 
* Supported on select computers and monitors.
